Alexis went out of her way to brighten a patient's day and fulfill the only wish they had since arriving to our unit. We had a patient on our unit who was homeless and their identity was unknown. This patient had been admitted on the unit for several weeks. This person has had no one inquiring about them and has contacted no one. The only thing this patient ever asks for is a hotdog. Alexis being a very kindhearted individual, sought out approval from leadership and used her own time and money to buy this patient a hotdog with all of the trimmings. This absolutely made the patient's day and it was so heartwarming to see such a simple act of kindness bring such utter joy to a person.
This patient spoke many times after about how Alexis made them feel important and how they felt like someone cared for them. They were grateful that a simple gesture of getting a hotdog showed how much Alexis cared.
