Alexis made sure during MY darkest moments that I was loved, cared for, needed, and had a reason to try to keep fighting, and for that, I will forever be grateful.
I was airlifted from FMC to regional MICU. Upon arrival, I was very anxious, scared, and didn't fully know what to expect or how serious my situation was; however, from the time Alexis walked into my room to let me know she would be my night RN, I immediately felt a small relief come off of me. Alexis made it clear from that moment that I was in great hands and even made time to assess my mental health. To hear from doctors that me being 21, I was literally knocking on death's door, and they didn’t expect me to make it through the first night; Alexis continued to remind me that she was here for me and that as long as she was my nurse, “I was not dying on her watch” and I believed her. From that moment on, whenever I hit the call button or my alarms went off, she was right there immediately to assess my situation. Not only did she care and tend to me, she also took care of my mother and made sure she was as comfortable and mentally/physically well. For example, Alexis brought warm blankets the four nights I was in MICU for my mom and made sure that even when my mom was not in her willing power to ask, Alexis knew and saw and jumped in to help my mom get situated. Alexis made sure that even when I didn’t want to stay hydrated or eat; she encouraged me and informed me the importance of staying hydrated to help get my kidneys back working. She even kept a small “hydration station” close to my bed so that I could reach it. To some, it may seem small, but Alexis went out of her way to make sure my mom had an excuse for the whole week of being out of work, and it showed that not only did she care for me, but she took the time to look after my mom on something small like this. What amazes me the most about Alexis is that she recently graduated in May of 2023 (I believe); the bedside manner, compassion, love, and care she showed shone very bright. I would have thought she was a much more seasoned nurse. Alexis made sure during MY darkest moments that I was loved, cared for, needed, and had a reason to try to keep fighting, and for that, I will forever be grateful, and she will forever be my home away from home during this experience and for that I am grateful for a second chance at life.
