One fall day started as any would, with our normal morning routine! Upon arriving home, I had to go to the hospital to have a wound vac change, which I had taken our new six-week-old baby with me. We had to enter through the Emergency Room, not knowing moments later we were at the right spot at the right time.

One of the lovely nurses (Alexis) came out of the back to greet me and see the new bundle of joy. Upon pulling the shades apart from the car seat and stroller sat my six-week-old baby, blue and gasping for air.

Alexis immediately sprang into action; I had never seen a baby removed from a car seat so quickly! She ran through the double doors with my son in the air yelling for the ER doctor to come now and check the baby and called a code pink.

Alexis took matters into her hands and called the shots on his next plan of care. She sat there for hours helping him breathe all while getting him stable and not leaving his side but doing everything in her power to keep him here. And she did just that, she got him on board with the Cal-Star helicopter - so as soon as she was able to get him stable, he was ready to be transferred to another hospital.

Jonathan is now 8 months old doing wonderful - one would never know that he had parainfluenza and almost passed. And it's all thanks to Alexis and her quick thinking with a positive attitude and a great smile. She shows compassion to everybody and always goes above and beyond with all her patients.
