May 2023 Honoree
Alexis Stanley, BSN
Alexis is compassionate and caring. She has a heart for pediatric patients and this was demonstrated one day in clinical. She was assisting another nursing student with a patient with cerebral palsy and a urinary tract infection. Even though this patient was an adult, Alexis was able to communicate in a manner very similar to what is needed for pediatric patients. She used her keen nonverbal skills to put the patient and the mom at ease immediately. She softened her voice, smiled broadly at the patient, and got down on his eye level. The patient smiled back with the brightest smile and allowed the nursing staff to complete the necessary care. A nurse who is able to relay the necessity of potentially painful procedures, like starting an IV or changing a dressing, when a patient may not fully understand why, is so very vital. Alexis is able to provide this level of understanding and assurance. She is an excellent future nurse!
Thank you, Alexis, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
