Ali Ramsey demonstrates SSM Health mission and values by caring for her patients on a level that is beyond the usual compassionate patient/caregiver relationship. My husband's grandfather, F, was recently a patient on the swing bed and inpatient units. Ali was his nurse for several days. Her interactions with F were genuine and he enjoyed connecting to her through his Hopkins connections. F soon moved to hospice care. The same day that he passed away, another nurse reached out to me because she and Ali were wondering how F was doing. I told her that he had passed, and she shared with me that Ali cried when F left SSM Health. That was so touching to me.
I later found out that Ali wanted to go to the services for him but was unable to. Instead, she had her aunt take her to the Hopkins cemetery on her own time, where F was buried so that she could pay her respects. To hear how much she cared about a patient she barely knew speaks volumes about how big her heart is. It is comforting to know that F received great care beyond the typical nurse duties we expected. What Ali did with and for F is a perfect example of our values in action. Thank you, Ali, for your compassion!
