It was the first time I was going through chemotherapy, and I was extremely anxious and apprehensive about my first session. I was so lucky that Alice Gumiran was assigned to me that day. She was an absolute pro and helped ease my nervousness by explaining the medications and procedures.

I hate needles, and the thought of them gives me anxiety. I always have to look away when getting a shot or having blood drawn. So, when the time came to put in the cannula, I wasn't excited. Alice was doing her best to reassure me. The cannula was inserted, but unfortunately, my vein bulged. I was about to freak out. Being the cool, calm, and collected pro, this nurse immediately cracked a joke. I started laughing, and the tension was eased immediately. She then calmly explained that sometimes it happens, and everything would be all right. She put an icepack on the vein, picked another one, and put in the cannula without incident.

Since then, whenever I go in for chemotherapy, I make sure she will be my nurse. With her competence and confidence, warm personality, and deep care for her patients, she is an absolute credit to her profession.
