My husband recently suffered a severe fall from an 8ft ladder, which led us to the Emergency Room at University Hospital. After undergoing a CT scan, we discovered that he had broken ribs and a serious injury to his neck. Throughout the ordeal, his historically low heart rate, usually in the low 50s, became a cause for concern when it dipped into the 40s. His nurse, AJ, was incredibly attentive, continuously assessing his condition and asking if he felt lightheaded or dizzy, urging him to speak up if he did. Knowing my husband, he rarely complains and tends to downplay his discomfort. However, when his heart rate plummeted to 30 and then 20, AJ immediately sprang into action. She noticed the alarming change without delay and alerted the doctor, administering medication to bring his heart rate back up. The doctor explained that his condition was most likely due to spinal shock. I am convinced that if it weren’t for AJ’s diligence in monitoring and expertise, my husband’s situation could have turned much more serious. Her experience, knowledge, and genuine care ensured that we were in the best hands possible during this crisis. Thank you, AJ, for your extraordinary dedication and kindness.
