My sister was brought to the emergency room via ambulance at BIDMC in Boston, accompanied by myself and 2 of my siblings. Alice immediately introduced herself as my sister's primary nurse and explained what procedures were being done, and made us comfortable. Alice remained with us, explaining everything that was happening and speaking to my sister in a calm manner. She stayed on top of every incident, intervened, and advocated for my sister. The best description of Alice's exceptional care and compassion is that she treated my sister like part of her family. My sister was transferred to the ICU at BI, and several days later, I saw Alice in the halls. She immediately approached me, hugged me, asked how my sister was doing, and gave her best to our family. She carried on the connection of kindness and caring outside of her "shift." Being a nurse myself, my goal is to model this level of care and compassion.
