December 2024 Honoree
Alicia Dowdy, BSN, RN
We had a patient who was struggling with respiratory issues for a while during their stay. They became increasingly anxious, and earlier in the day, this patient and his son decided it was best to change his code status to DNR/DNI. Throughout our shift, his primary nurse and several others from the unit would console the patient and do everything to make him comfortable. Alicia Dowdy was able to stay in the room, sat next to him on his bed, and rubbed his back. He eventually laid his head on her shoulders and fell asleep. He passed shortly afterward in her arms. She did not leave him or the family alone during this time.
Thank you, Alicia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
