Alicia is our unit coordinator and is always busy in the background helping the staff with the patients. Alicia helps with all our needs, whenever we need something for any patient. She never complains and always helps us.
A few weeks ago, Alicia willingly took a patient assignment, so a fellow RN could enjoy the holiday with her family.
The patient in her care had been in a motor vehicle accident and her face was swollen and cut. When the patient saw her face, she was upset and very emotional. Alicia is very compassionate and identified quickly that the patient was not yet able to see her injured face. She carefully considered how to meet this patient's need to not yet see her face. Alicia took the time to think outside the box.
What she did was cover the mirror in the room with paper. She asked the family to write beautiful words of encouragement, so the patient could see the love from her family instead of seeing her facial injuries.
It was a great idea and gave the family and patient peace and encouragement. Alicia is a blessing to all she comes in contact with.
