My husband had dual-level laminectomies and fusions with instrumentation of his spine by our outstanding surgeon. After getting E settled in at home, I needed to pick up the medications he would need at home, but we hadn't yet heard from the pharmacy. When I called, Walgreens had no new medications ordered for E on record. By this time he was in significant pain. I didn't know what to do, so I called the 6th floor for help.

Alicia answered. She could see that everything was initiated correctly from the hospital's end, but for some reason, Walgreens' system was not receiving the orders. She soon found out the Walgreens system was somehow shut down. At this point in time, our Walgreens location was closed for the night. Alicia asked where I would like to go instead of the original pharmacy. We looked online together and found several options, but it turned out the information regarding store hours was completely incorrect.

Store hours were listed as open until 9 PM or 10 PM locations, but all were false and actually closed at 6 PM and it was well past 6 PM. Alicia even recruited the hospitalist (who was extremely attentive to my husband's preexisting medical conditions during his stay) to join our quest to find a pharmacy- any pharmacy open at this point in the evening. I would like to point out that Alicia was not our nurse during my husband's hospital stay, she just happened to answer the phone when I called the unit that evening- and we are so grateful that she did.

Alicia and the hospitalist probably spent the better part of an hour trying to find an open pharmacy to get my husband his meds. Finally, Alicia called me back having found a CVS pharmacy location that was open 24 hours roughly 30 minutes from our home. Alicia was not just helpful, she was a lifeline for us. She worked so hard to find a solution, all while demonstrating enormous grace, poise, caring, kindness, and professionalism
