At almost 34 weeks pregnant, my husband and I found out our daughter had passed away. We were devastated, and this meant we had to go to labor and delivery. We had no idea what we were in for, thinking that we still had weeks before her arrival. Plus, we hadn't ever thought about, let alone been prepared for, our daughter being stillborn. My husband and I checked into the hospital on Friday night, scared. Saturday morning came and we received a new nurse for the day. This is when we met Alicia. She was a ray of sunshine in our darkest days. Alicia helped us feel as prepared as we could be. Alicia answered questions for us that we didn't even know we had. For example, she provided me with options on how I could handle my breast milk when it came in. Without her, I wouldn't have ever known that donating my milk was an option. The amount of time Alicia spent talking to my husband and me about what we would be experiencing, questions we had, encouraging me through labor/delivery, etc. is something we will forever be thankful for. After I delivered our daughter, Alicia handled her with such care. It gave us such a feeling of relief knowing that her body was being treated so gently, along with our feelings. When it was time for us to leave and say our goodbyes, Alicia stayed in the room with our baby. Leaving our daughter was the hardest thing to do, but knowing that she was safe with Alicia, gave us some peace. My husband and I were blessed to have had Alicia with us every step of the way that weekend. You could feel that her job is more than just a job to her.
