March 2015 Honoree
alicia marie jambai, RN, BSN
I had knee surgery on my birthday. Alicia was kind and easy to talk to. She is a genuinely caring and capable person. The day after surgery it was time to change the dressing that was packed in the open wound. She said that Dr. H, also a very cool person, had warned her how big the cut was and I had my camera ready so I could send pictures to my friends. Dr. H said later it was big enough to replace the whole knee. Alicia carefully and persistently removed gauze and I trusted her because I knew she cared about me. She called for Dr. H to remove the ones that were stuffed down under the sides. The pain was intense, but what I remember is a cool Dr. getting it done, another cool nurse holding my hand and Alicia's hand on my chest while my body was reacting. I could feel how much she was hurting with me. I had to be strong one day, but she chooses to care every day. I am nominating Alicia because she cared so much about me, and that pushed her into taking the best possible care of me.
Thank you, Alicia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
