Alicia received the DAISY Award for protecting the rights and safety of a patient, according to her nominator. Merten was preparing a patient for discharge when she noticed the agitated demeanor of the patient's driver. After observing the driver's unacceptable behaviors toward the patient, the nominator stated, "Alicia knew sending the patient with this driver would not be putting the needs of the patient first." Merten began the "stop the line" process which alerted security staff to prevent the driver from taking the patient from the premises.
