I would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Alicia for her devoted care during my stay. I first met Alicia after my surgery. She was my night nurse. Safe to say she was very attentive to my care the first night and every other night I was her patient. This would not be the last time I saw her. My surgery did not go as planned and had to have a second surgery. I was in the hospital for almost a month. She was my nurse for the majority of my stay. When she was not my nurse she would take time to come and check up on me. She was very motivating and insisting on walking more so I could heal quicker. This would not be the end of the story.
I returned for a second time to have my colostomy takedown. She again was my nurse. She was very excited and glad that it had gone well. Then I had a complication and had to have emergency surgery. This time I had spent a month and a half in the hospital. Having a total of five surgeries, Alicia must have kept drawing the short straw, because I kept being her patient. I'm writing this now because I would like to nominate Alicia for the DAISY Award. She went beyond her nursing duties to motivate and inspire me when I would almost give up on myself. She is the true meaning of a health care provider and truly cares for her patients.
