September 2018 Honoree
alicia porter, RN
We were visiting in Tennessee when my husband had an acute gallbladder attack which resulted in a severe infection. All the nurses who cared for him during his 6-7 day stay were wonderful. Alicia, however, was exceptional! No matter how busy the floor seemed to be every time his buzzer would go off she was there with a smile and encouraging words. To complete his treatment, my husband was advised not to travel back to New Jersey, but to be moved to a Knoxville hospital for a procedure. As a result of a physician not being available in Knoxville for a week we were to now travel back to Jersey. We were confused and a little apprehensive about the trip after being advised it was not a smart decision. Alicia walked us through this confusing situation with her medical knowledge and showed personal compassion for a fellow human being. We will always be grateful for this wonderful nurse who worked so hard to provide support and excellent care every step for an out-of-state patient who was sick, confused and overwhelmed. We were required to stay an extra day and Alicia continued to share her tremendous knowledge with us and even provided a list of drug stores in the local area. She is a dedicated, selfless, nurse who made my husband's hospital stay most comfortable and improved his quality of life in the hospital.
Thank you, Alicia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
