This person’s critical thinking skills led her to request the use of a wheelchair-fitted ambulance for the discharge plan, and it was approved.
As the husband of a patient who was recently treated at St. Joseph Hospital, I am contacting you to express my opinion of your employee's outstanding service.
My wife suffered bone fractures and a concussion as a result of a MVA with a rollover we were in. Upon discharge, the challenge was to figure out how best to transport my wife to where I awaited, due to my own circumstances. Given the hospital policy prohibiting patients from using public transportation alone, we were at a crossroads. This person’s critical thinking skills led her to request the use of a wheelchair-fitted ambulance for the discharge plan, and it was approved.
This person’s accomplishment required skills at several levels: immediate comprehension, ingenuity, systematic evaluation of the options, awareness of the federal ADA law, and not a little perseverance-- all while maintaining safety and compliance with your hospital policy in mind. While this was nothing more than a task, it was surely not a routine one, and this person’s management of the situation exceeded my expectations. As a former psychologist manager myself, I am well-qualified and experienced in making that judgment. In addition, this person followed up after her shift ended to be sure that my wife got home safely. She handled the situation very nicely through an efficient process to reach a safe and workable conclusion.
As a result, I have no reservations in recommending this person for other awards or complex job responsibilities in the future, should her own career advancement require or benefit from it. Thank you!
