The story of Nurse Baba Ali at King Abdulaziz Hospital: A Journey of Loyalty and Giving - Baba Ali's Story in 1439 AH: I began my work in the dialysis department in 1439 AH. At the time, I was the least experienced among my colleagues, whose experience ranged between 13 and 24 years. Everything was new and different for me until I met Nurse Ihastor, known as "Baba Ali," who served as the department's Vice President of Nursing. He welcomed me with words I will never forget: "I will be your primary supporter and teach you everything you need to provide care for dialysis patients. I am happy and proud to have you join the department, and I am confident that you will be a distinguished addition to us."
With his 24 years of experience, he was generous with his guidance and education, answering all my questions patiently and without complaint. Three years later, I was appointed Vice President of the Department, and he told me, "I will be behind you until my last day in this department." Indeed, he did not give up on his promise. He is a supporter who did not hesitate to provide assistance, whether to me, the department, or the patients, with all love, sincerity, and from a humanitarian perspective, with dialysis patients.
As the patient S.A. told us, "I had been following dialysis sessions in the department for six years, and one day the doctor requested a routine test for me, which revealed a sharp drop in my blood level. He informed her of the urgent need for a blood transfusion and the need to provide donors. I told the nurse in charge of my case at the time that she did not have a donor, so he, in turn, informed Baba Ali and the rest of the nursing staff in the department. Baba Ali took the initiative to conduct the necessary tests, and it turned out that his blood type matched mine, and that he was the only one capable of giving me his blood. Indeed, he had an effective role in my recovery after God. May God reward him for what he did and for this stance that I will never forget as long as I live."
In Ramadan 2025, specifically on Saturday the 22nd, I received the shocking news: Nurse Lahistor is sick, his condition is critical, and he is in the Emergency Department. Tests revealed that his kidney function was very high, which required urgent intervention. Although his condition stabilized, the biggest shock was that he needed dialysis as soon as possible and was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. After 31 years of dedicated care for kidney failure patients, he now finds himself facing the same suffering his patients experienced. But he remains the same Baba Ali we know: the father, the teacher, the advisor, the supporter, and the pillar of this department. I ask God Almighty to grant him health and wellness, and to grant him a speedy recovery, as he is a symbol of endless giving.
