Alinda was the bedside RN two days in a row for a teenage patient with a post-op femur fracture. The patient was incredibly fearful post-operatively, and would only lie in one position in bed and cry. When Alinda took over the patient's care, the patient had refused PT and was using adult diapers to avoid having to get up out of bed. The patient had not been adequately repositioned since transferring from PACU.
Alinda took the time to get down on the patient's level, and explain to her the importance of getting out of bed to avoid post-operative complications and improve recovery. She made sure the patient's pain was controlled, and then worked with the patient to reposition, get up to use the restroom, etc. She also worked with the family, to help them feel confident in taking home their daughter and the care required at home for recovery.
Alinda has been working on the Med/Surg Unit for two and a half years. In that time, Alinda has touched the lives of many patients, families and co-workers. Every time a learning opportunity presents itself, Alinda embraces the situation with grace and poise as an opportunity for growth.
