June 2026 Honoree
Alisa Krutzky, BSN,RN
I would like to nominate Alisa for the DAISY Award for her exceptional advocacy, clinical awareness, and dedication to her patients. During a recent shift, Alisa was caring for a mother-baby couplet following a delivery complicated by a 90-second shoulder dystocia. From the beginning of the shift, she recognized that something seemed off, and as the hours passed, the newborn became increasingly fussy and inconsolable, with continuous crying that raised concern among the staff. Alisa remained vigilant and attentive, recognizing the infant's symptoms were not consistent with the delivery complication alone. Alongside her coworker, she escalated concerns to the physician and advocated for further evaluation.
Despite a busy shift, she did not miss the changes and continued to push for answers to ensure the baby received appropriate care. Because of her advocacy, the newborn was further evaluated, started on pain medication, and transferred to the NICU after consultation with neonatology. It was later discovered the infant was experiencing severe withdrawal and required ongoing specialized care. Alisa's dedication did not stop at the end of her shift; she stayed late to help ensure a safe and thorough transition of care to the NICU team. Her attentiveness, persistence, and commitment to doing what is right for her patient made a profound difference in this newborn's outcome. It is an honor to work alongside Alisa, and she exemplifies what it means to be a nurse and is truly deserving of the DAISY Award.
