My mom passed away at Banner in October. I wanted to take a moment and express how grateful I am for the compassion and care my mom, my sister, and myself received from the day nurse, Ali. She literally gave us a gift in making sure we were all allowed to spend time together before my mother passed. Of course, I wanted to be with my mom for myself, but even more importantly, I wanted to be there for her, because I knew she felt alone and frightened. I wish I could've done more, and been there more for my mother, but the fact that my sister and I were able to hold her hand and let her know that she was not alone means so much to us. COVID is a horrible, insidious disease and my heart breaks when I see families on the news that have had to say goodbye to their loved ones via some sort of technical device. I really think that would have broken me. As I said, she gave us a gift, and I will be forever grateful.
Although we had less contact with her, Kim, another nurse taking care of my mom, was also extremely kind, compassionate, and thoughtful in helping us move through one of the most painful parts of our lives. I'm so grateful for both of them, and the countless others who are literally risking their own health to be of service to other people. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
