Alison Whiting has not only developed her clinical skills, but has become a compassionate and devoted representation of nursing. Ali spends most of her day at the bedside of her patients ensuring they are being cared for from a holistic perspective. She is calm and soothing in her approach bringing peace to our patients.
Ali is caring of her patients; she is dedicated to her peers. She is known to be an active listener when others are having a rough day and assisting her peers to ensure their work is completed. She has become a mentor to new staff through preceptorship and demonstrating compassionate care.
A patient on Turner 4 was nearing the end of his life surrounded by his loved ones. Ali had cared for him throughout his admission and had come to tell me his time was coming near. I watched Ali effortlessly comfort and console his wife and children, quietly telling them that he had passed. When I looked at Ali she also had tears in her eyes. As the family left, they thanked us for caring for their loved one and told me that Ali is a "gem". I couldn't agree more.
