Dr. S was rounding on a patient with prostate cancer who was very depressed and not coping well. He knew he was dying and was struggling with how to deal with it. Dr. S asked him how he wanted to be remembered and he said by his "guitar". He had been in a band and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Alix brought in her guitar so he could play and teach her how to play. This was the first time we saw him smile in two weeks. When the patient transferred to hospice, Alix continued to visit him with her guitar. When medically we couldn't do more for him, Alix helped with what he truly needed most, his music.
