Allan was nominated for the DAISY Award by the mother of one of his patients. In the nomination she expressed her gratitude for Allan's support in letting her stay by her daughter's side after recovering from a tricuspid valve replacement. The patient's mother wrote,
"Allan's abilities, along with his compassion and humility, make him the best nurse I have encountered. As he left for the day he came to me and put his hands out for a hug. With tears in my eyes I embraced this young man with gratitude and love. He wished my daughter a quick recovery, touched her arm, and then he was gone. His nursing was a huge part of my daughter's successful stay in the CVICU."
