Prior to receiving his DAISY Award, Allen Chan passed away. His wife accepted it in his behalf.
...
We arrived at City of Hope and my husband had a consultation, but he was so sick that they admitted him the same day. He was in so much pain he couldn't eat, drink, talk or sleep. We were taken to 4 east and Allen Chan was our nurse. I was like a deer in headlights. My husband was too sick to communicate throughout those days and Allan continually assured my husband that he would be okay. He searched every avenue to help. Allen listened and said 'If you can't or don't want to speak for yourself I will be your voice'. Those words were more important than I can express. He gave me strength and power to advocate for my husband when I could not find it within.
Allen Chan's words, his kindness, his compassion, his constant presence when we needed him will live with us forever.
