During winter storm Fern, we had a patient who was waiting in our ER for an extended period of time since the ice was making it difficult for ambulances to make transfers.

Not knowing she would be admitted prior to coming to the ER, the patient did not bring her home medications, which included transplant anti-rejection drugs that are necessary for her to take daily and that we do not carry at our freestanding ER. At the end of his 12-hour shift, Allen risked his safety to brave the icy roads and retrieve the patient's medications from a friend at her home so she wouldn't be without her medications for another day.

Allen went above and beyond to make sure our patients' health was a top priority, and I am proud to call him a coworker.
