I would like to recognize Allison Guthrie because of the compassion, strength, and advocacy she displayed during a difficult shift. While caring for a patient whose condition was steadily declining, she noticed concerning changes early on. She trusted those instincts and put her full effort into ensuring the patient received the care they needed.

Allison made multiple phone calls throughout the shift, updating providers and relaying every concern she had about her patient. The situation was emotionally demanding, and at times she would hang up with tears in her eyes. She wiped them away, grounded herself, and kept going. Her focus never wavered. She remained steadfast in her advocacy and made sure her patient felt supported every moment.

What stands out most is not only her persistence but her heart. Allison is still early in her nursing career, yet she showed the kind of courage and compassion that define the very best in our profession. She did what nurses do: she swallowed her tears, steadied herself, and kept going because her patient needed her. That is the true essence of nursing: to continue fighting, comforting, and caring even when it is hard, even when the weight feels heavy, even when the outcome is uncertain.

Allison’s actions that night were a powerful reminder of why nursing is not just a job, but a calling. She embodied the strength, empathy, and relentless advocacy that every nurse strives for, and she made a difference when it mattered most. She deserves to be recognized for the heart she brought to her patient, to the shift, and to our profession.

Thank you, Allison, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
