Recently we had a patient passing away and her family was unable to be with her. Allison was not assigned to this patient but was aware of the circumstances. When the nurse caring for the patient needed to leave the room to care for her other patients, Allison volunteered to stay with the patient and was with her when she eventually passed.

When I saw Allison, it was obvious that this event was upsetting to her. Allison shared that she would have given anything to have been with her own mother when she passed away and could not bear to see this patient be alone. Because of Allison's compassion and empathy, this patient passed peacefully with someone at her side.
