A specific example of her on a random night in Sicu is when we tripled nurses. She was offering to pass medications or go on trips to alleviate some of the stress. She’s always making us feel supported. Admitting patients/trauma patients, she always makes it a point to check in on all new patients being settled in, yes, that’s her job, but she always makes it a point to be present.

She has completely taken care of a patient of mine who was also very sick, while I was busy attending to a trauma patient who needed my extra attention early on in their admission. While also checking in on the multiple CRRT machines, diffusing potentially volatile situations, she is available as a sounding board, still provides compassionate communication with family members and staff, offers to help clean/offload your patients, plan staffing for the day, and probably more that I missed because she’s always on the move.

Another night this same week, after being short-staffed and I was tripled myself, Allison went out of her way to pass medications for me. She made time for me to take a break because I was tired and extremely busy with my patients. And she probably hadn’t had the time to eat herself, but she again always goes out of her way to support us! She doesn’t get half the recognition she deserves.
