Allison Nowaskey, D.N.P., Emergency Department, received the DAISY Award in May. Nowaskey was nominated by a patient's family member for quickly stepping in to address the needs of the patient. Here's an excerpt from the nomination: "We received word from our schedulers that a patient was having an anaphylactic reaction from a vaccine. … As we were all grabbing supplies, … Allison asked if she could come too. Allison immediately went to the opposite side of the patient and assisted in trying to provide reassurance to the patient. She remained calm during the entire situation and stayed until the Emergency Medical Service crew arrived and assumed care. … Her quick action in this situation provided the support both the patient and the team needed at that moment. She could have easily sat back and let others handle the situation, but, rather she jumped in to care for the patient."
