Allison was quite empathetic to my situation. She continued checking in every afternoon and attempted to ease both my cough and my pain.
I was hospitalized in the ER on a holiday. I was brought by ambulance and diagnosed with type A flu. From the ER, I was placed in a room upon arrival to my room. Allison immediately greeted me. She advised me that she would be my nurse. She had a big smile when she greeted me with a very cheerful and uplifting disposition, which I very much needed as I felt absolutely awful. She was my day nurse twice. She was the only smiling face I saw on the holiday as my wife was at home, much too sick with the flu to visit me. Believe me, a smiling face and cheerful disposition really go a long way in an uplifting person. I found her smile and cheerfulness to be very encouraging to me. I was in a very bad way; I could not stop coughing. My diaphragm was hurting from having coughed so much. She was quite empathetic to my situation. She continued checking in every afternoon and attempted to ease both my cough and my pain. My wife was with me in the ER, and when we first went to the room, she was coughing and not feeling well. Allison encouraged my wife to go home and rest, advising that she would take good care of me, which she did.
The following morning, she again came into my room with a smile on her face. She immediately realized I was still coughing and hurting and had been unable to sleep a wink in the night due to the steroids and coughing. She paid attention to my condition, listened to my chest, and acted upon it. She indicated she would contact the doctor and try to get meds to soften my cough and possibly allow me to sleep a little. She then returned with a dose of liquid cough medicine prescribed by the hospitalist doctor. Within a short while, my cough eased somewhat; I found it comforting that my nurse both listened and paid attention to me and immediately acted upon it. Since 1999, due to other health issues, I have been a patient on numerous occasions. I have never met a more pleasant yet competent nurse. I am thankful for having her as my primary nurse and feel that her personal care is largely responsible for my prompt recovery.
