On January 2 around 6:45pm, a patient showed paranoia and was very reluctant to sign release of information. In the meantime, the patient's sister who lives in New York was crying over the phone anxious to know if her brother is in the Psych unit. With Allison's encouragements, this patient was finally convinced to allow Allison to inform his sister of his whereabouts thereby relieving the sister's anxiety and worry over him. Other members of the family felt better too knowing that this patient is in a safe place.

Another patient who came to the Psych unit looked haggard, dehydrated and weak for not eating for days. Within those days that Allison was with this patient, Allison gently persuaded this patient to eat and to take her medications. The patient listened to Allison and eventually the medications took effect. The patient felt better and moved to a stable condition. Allison even met the patient's family in scheduled family sessions to help with aftercare plans.

One male patient came in smelling terrible. He must not have showered for weeks and no amount of prodding made him bathe until Allison took her turn to care for him. With Allison's urging and persuasion, the patient agreed to shower and changed his clothes. She also was able to persuade him to attend groups and comply with his medications.

As a team player, Allison performs very well, always ready to pitch in when help is needed and while in the process of working with fellow staff. As a charge nurse or as part of a team, her respect for them and attention to details don't waver.

Allison's organizational skills leave no room for errors. She deserves the DAISY Award.
