We were extremely busy in the ED one day, and there was a patient who was developmentally delayed borderline psych. He had managed to be in Los Angeles, CA from Canada. His mother was worried sick because she could not find him. He somehow managed to check into our ED because he lost his "brain" medication. Nobody paid him much attention because he was mumbling to himself, except Allison. She somehow reached his mother via telephone and explained the situation. The mother had some credit cards with which she was attempting to use to purchase an airline ticket for her son. The credit cards kept declining, it was frustrating and before we knew it, the ticket was booked, TSA, and the airline was contacted as well, to arrange for a safe discharge.
She has been so humble about everything and shy from the recognition of her hard work. She explained to me that as a mother she would want her kids to be safe as well. She has shown others compassion and respect to complete strangers because she would want her family treated this way. Allison cares, compassion, and contribute to the community is the reason she is a DAISY Nurse. She inspires us all!
