Allison Williamson, BSN, RN, PCCN
We are honored to nominate Allison, an IMCU nurse at Wellstar Paulding Medical Center, for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care and compassion she showed to our beloved family member and our entire family.
From the moment Allison began caring for our family member, it was clear that she was not just an exceptional nurse, but a truly compassionate human being. She treated her with dignity, gentleness, and attentiveness during some of the most difficult moments of her life. Allison consistently anticipated our family member’s needs—whether helping her reposition comfortably or simply bringing ice chips—and did so with a kindness that brought her comfort and peace. Our family member would often ask, “Is Allison here?” because of the reassurance and trust she felt in her presence.
What made Allison’s care even more extraordinary was the way she extended that same compassion to our entire family. As we gathered—often 8 to 10 of us at a time—praying, supporting one another, and preparing to say goodbye, Allison made sure we were cared for, too. On what we knew would likely be our loved one’s final day, Allison told us that it did not matter how many of us came—we were all welcome. She went out of her way to set up water and coffee in the lobby for our family and continually checked on us throughout the day. In a time filled with grief and uncertainty, she created an environment of warmth, support, and peace.
Allison exemplifies what it means to be a nurse. Her compassion, attentiveness, and genuine care for both her patient and our family will never be forgotten. She turned an incredibly painful experience into one filled with dignity, love, and human connection.
We are forever grateful for Allison and the impact she made on our loved one’s final days and on our family’s hearts.
