Allyson is a true example of a nurse who models clinical excellence, teamwork and provides extraordinary patient care. Our clinic provides care to children with various social determinants of health, language barriers, and the uninsured. During the pandemic, our clinic was unexpectedly left short-staffed, decreasing from three to one nurse, Allyson. Many of our patients counted on us to provide access to healthcare during a tragic time. Our volume increased. We relied on Allyson’s dedication to our team. Allyson honors the human spirit, remained optimistic and encouraged the team to function as one. Despite a heavy workflow and short staffing, she treated the team and patients with the utmost dignity and respect, like family. Allyson provides extraordinary patient care. I recall a premature infant presenting with hyperbilirubinemia. The caregiver was a first time mother, and we had to do blood work. I, the doctor, had to give my attention to an acute patient. I witnessed the mother get anxious to take the infant to an outside the lab during the pandemic. Despite Allyson’s heavy workflow and countless vaccinations, Allyson immediately stepped up without asking. She put on the heal warmer, took the blood, and educated the parent. The mother was fearful, but having Allyson by her side turned a frightening time into a remarkable experience. I witnessed Allyson’s extraordinary compassionate care.
