Allyson Vogan, BSN, RN

I would like to nominate Allyson, an exceptional nurse in our emergency department, for the DAISY Award. With decades of nursing experience, this nominee is not only a strong leader in our department but also a role model for the entire team. She has a special gift for caring for our pediatric patients, a population that many of us feel less comfortable with in the ED. Allyson consistently steps in with confidence, patience, and compassion, making children feel safe and supported.

One example that stands out is when a pediatric patient was brought in for a psychiatric emergency. The child was anxious, withdrawn, and was brought in due to an attempted suicide at home. While the situation was stressful, Allyson calmly stepped in and quickly built a bond with the patient. She spoke to her in a kind, age-appropriate way, using humor and gentle conversation to earn her trust. By the end of the shift, the patient, who had been guarded and resistant, was talking openly with Allyson and even smiling. The mother expressed her gratitude for the way Allyson treated her child with dignity and compassion.

What makes Allyson especially remarkable is her ability to bring warmth and humanity into moments of crisis. Whether caring for a sick infant, a frightened child, or an adolescent in emotional distress, she meets each patient exactly where they are. She not only eases children's fears but also reassures parents, making sure they feel supported and informed. Allyson is the nurse we look to in challenging situations. Her humor keeps our team going. It's not just good nursing-it's Allyson's heart. Her experience, compassion, and leadership leave a lasting impact on her patients, their families, and all of us who are fortunate to work alongside her. For these reasons and many more, I believe Allyson truly deserves the DAISY Award.
