Allyssa Williams, RN MSN
When my water broke, my husband and I arrived at HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese around 2:00 AM. We were immediately greeted by Alyssa, whose warm smile and kind demeanor put us at ease from the moment we walked through the doors. She made what could have been a frightening and overwhelming experience feel safe and comforting throughout the early hours of my labor. Alyssa went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable.
Before every vulnerable procedure, such as checking my cervix and performing an amniotic fluid swab, she carefully explained what she was doing, why it was necessary, and what I could expect. Her compassion, patience, and empathy made me truly feel cared for. She communicated everything so clearly that I always felt informed and involved in my care. It honestly felt like I was cared for by a close friend or family member rather than somebody I just met.
When Alyssa shifted, and later that morning, I couldn't help but think how grateful I was for the care she had given me. As my labor progressed throughout the day, I was thrilled when she returned for her next shift. The moment she walked back into my room, I immediately felt reassured.
After my son was born, Alyssa continued to provide exceptional care. She patiently helped me with my first breastfeeding latch and continued assisting me throughout the night until I felt more confident. She helped me safely to the bathroom, assisted me after delivery, and constantly made sure I was comfortable and supported. She even shared some of her own experiences, which helped me feel understood and reminded me that what I was going through was normal.
Weeks later, I still find myself thinking about Alyssa and the incredible difference she made during one of the most important days of my life. She didn't just provide excellent nursing care; she provided comfort, confidence, encouragement, and genuine compassion when I needed it the most. She went far beyond what I ever expected of a nurse, and because of her, I look back on my birthing experience with gratitude rather than fear.
I will never forget Alyssa’s kindness, her professionalism, or the warmth she brought into every room with her beautiful smile. She is an extraordinary nurse whose passion for caring for others is evident in everything she does.
