I'm so grateful to Alma for recognizing my husband was in distress even though he was trying to "tough it out".
My husband had a CABGx3 on Monday. On Wednesday he had several hours of a very rapid heartbeat for several hours leaving him exhausted. When this nurse came on shift and walked into the room she immediately realized his breathing was not normal. This nurse calmly took his vitals, called the doctor, and kept a close eye on him until the doctor arrived. Part of my husband’s lung had collapsed. His BP was rising. They put a drainage tube in through the ribs at 2 am. Scary things happen in the middle of the night in recovery. With less going on, sleepy patients, nurses are the front-line helping patients in their recovery battle. I'm so grateful to this nurse for recognizing my husband was in distress even though he was trying to "tough it out". For taking quick action and for doing it so calmly that it seemed like just another 'thing' and no big deal.
