Alona Patrick, BSN, RN
I wanted to take time out of my busy schedule to express my appreciation for the exceptional effort and dedication of the Brenham BSW ER team. The dedication and unyielding commitment to patients’ well-being is truly inspiring.
I was transported via EMS and was seen right away by the Brenham BSW ER team. I would like to give special recognition to Alona Patrick. Alona came into my room immediately with EMS, introduced herself as my nurse, and shared her name. I then recall Alona assessing the bed for stability and safety by locking the wheels and putting the call button in my reach. This was easy to notice because being in leadership in my career, safety is important and always comes first.
Following the safety check, Alona confirmed my identity via my wristband. During my entire visit, Alona was very patient, professional, compassionate, empathetic, and calm-mannered; most importantly, Alona communicated very well with me, keeping me informed. It was also evident that Alona stopped to listen well to her patients rather than just hearing. Alona listened with focus, understanding, calmness, and compassion. This also let me know Alona is confident, knowledgeable, and passionate about what she does at BSW. No question went unanswered.
I went into distress with nausea, dizziness, abdominal pain, and felt breathless. Alona communicated with confidence that everything would be OK. By this time, my trust was already with Alona, and I knew I would be OK. It was within a minute or two I was out of distress, stable and feeling much better as she assured me.
Also, please understand this is not just about me because I was not the only patient, I am sure. I noticed Alona bouncing up and down the hall as she was “multitasking” but never forgot to peep in and see if I needed anything and was OK. Alona speaks and works with confidence and commitment. It shows in her empathetic tone, communication, knowledge, and work.
We need more like Alona.
