Alona was able to recognize the patient's symptoms and was concerned.
Alona shared during our CM call that she received pushback from Labor and Delivery. The patient was 20 weeks and 6 days pregnant c/o constant abdominal pain as well as UTI symptoms. Per protocol Alona called Labor and Delivery and attempted to transfer the patient but received pushback from the LD Nurse who also made her stay on the line while she did her assessment- she told the patient that her symptoms sounded muscular and if anything sounded like Round Ligament Pain and told Alona to book her an appt in Medicine. Alonawas able to recognize the patient's symptoms and was concerned so after the LD call, she consulted with CCMD - the CCMD instructed Alona to call back LD and make sure they call the patient in for evaluation. Alona then called back to Labor and Delivery and insisted the RN take the call per CCMD instructions. Kudos to Alona for recognizing the severity of the patient's symptoms, for advocating for the patient, and for keeping her composure professional when faced with pushback.
