While we know that nursing is a profession that includes long hours, tedious tasks and time management, this nurse makes his role seem nothing like that. He is kind, patient and treats each of his patients with respect and like family! He forms an unmatched bond with each of his patients while providing excellent patient care. One example was an instance when he admitted an older lady who was visibly scared and her focus went to her recently manicured nails, which were now covered in dried blood. He made her feel welcome and comfortable as soon as he walked into the room. She was waiting for her family, who lived outside of DFW, to arrive and was frightened by the unfamiliar environment. She mentioned her nails and how they were ruined while he acclimated her to the room. As he finished his assessment and before leaving the room, he grabbed a towel, soap, and warm water, and he sat next to her to clean under each individual nail. He did not ask anyone else to do it, he took the time to clean off all the dried blood she had around each nail while having a conversation to keep her mind off the accident and her injuries.
He took on a seemingly tedious and time-consuming task, while knowingly having multiple patients to tend to. He made her feel like she was at the spa and disregarded all time constraints and to-do lists. They talked and developed an unforgettable relationship, as he cleaned under her nails. He made her feel as though she was his priority and the only patient that mattered. A simple gesture meant the world and was vital to this patient. The look in her eyes of being afraid was gone. She was able to sleep without her family present because she now trusted her nurse was going to take care of her, just like her family would. I am certain she will never forget meeting him. He was so impactful in making her feel at home and putting her worries at ease.
