Althea always made me feel so comfortable and took such good care of me. She had me laughing and smiling even when I wasn’t feeling my best. Her presence always made me feel so comfortable and allowed me to ask for help without feeling like a burden. She is incredible, and her beautiful energy is unmatched.

I would like to recognize Nurse Althea's extraordinary compassion and care. Althea has a presence that brings comfort the moment she enters the room. Her big, warm smile is more than just kind—it’s healing. She always treats my mother with the utmost dignity and respect, never failing to thank her, even when administering something as routine as an injection. It may seem like a small act, but those words—“Thank you for letting me”—reflect the humility and grace with which Althea carries out her role. My mother, who had been hospitalized for an extended period, was physically and emotionally drained. During that time, she rarely spoke and hadn’t smiled in days. Then came Althea. Her warmth, gentle tone, and sincere care sparked something we hadn’t seen: my mother smiled back. It was her one and only smile during her stay—and it was because of Althea. That moment meant everything.
Even more incredibly, my mom turned to her and said, “Thank you.” For someone who had barely been speaking, this was profound. Althea made my mother feel safe, valued, and seen—something no medication alone could provide. Althea exemplifies what the DAISY Award stands for. Her clinical skill is matched only by her heart. She brings humanity to every interaction and restores dignity to every patient she serves. My family and I are forever grateful for her care.
