Through the Magnet writing process, we identified an area of opportunity to include nursing in the ethics process. AJ was instrumental in revamping our Ethics Committee. AJ rolled out education to the nursing staff on the new ethics process and how to consult ethics. AJ chairs the local ethics committee meeting, where he brings forward cases for review and organizes education with our corporate ethics leaders. We have seen a drastic increase in ethics consults, many of which were triggered by bedside nurses. Many of these consults have led to interventions to ensure ethical care is being provided. Although our committee is still in its infancy stages, it has already gone from being a weakness to an area of great pride, and for that, I am nominating AJ for the DAISY Ethics Award.
