I had been in severe pain from a severe ear infection for the first couple of days here. I didn't feel a connection with any of my assigned nurses to that point. I was in so much pain that my groans and screams caught the attention of the supervising nurse. She assured me that I was getting a wonderful nurse for the overnight shift. Shortly thereafter Ally entered my room, introduced herself, told me to relax and breath. Ally then said, 'don't worry, I'm going to take great care of you so don't worry it's going to be a good night.'
I believed Ally immediately and before I knew it I was relaxed and engaged in casual conversation as Ally prepared my night meds while educating me on dosage and purpose of the pills. Ally then explained to me that she gets ear infections periodically and knew exactly how I felt. Ally applied drops to my ear, changed out my antibiotic drip, and gently explained the benefit of applying the ice bag to my ear that she prepared for me. I was finally able to fall asleep, the first time for that in many hours! I did however wake up every few hours in extreme pain. What was truly amazing was Ally anticipated my condition and in a very short time had my medication and before I knew it, the pain subsided enough for me to fall back asleep.
Ally made a huge difference in my treatment and helped set the tone for me having a positive attitude, and making my pain level seem manageable instead of an impossible situation which I might never recover from. I later learned that Ally cared for 5 other patients that night during her 12-hour shift; amazing! I'm amazed at the compassion, professionalism, and grace that Ally exhibits night in and night out! Ally rocks my socks...
