She was so awesome, I believe she is a big part of why my cancer is now in remission, and I graduated out of hospice.
In September of 2023, I was diagnosed with stage 3 lung, liver, and pancreas cancer. I had a Whipple procedure done at Miami Valley and spent fifty days there. I was then referred to UVMC. He immediately started me on chemotherapy at the cancer center where I met Alysia. From the start, she was a fantastic nurse and caregiver. She always made me feel at ease and comfortable. And she seemed to care with all of her heart. I was always so scared and so worried that I was going to die. My cancer began to spread, and I was having frequent trips to the ER. She would always come to my room and check in on me. I then entered hospice care. She even came by to see me there and checked in on me. She is the most loving and caring person and nurse. At this point, she became a friend and almost a member of my family with her life and compassion. She always kept me in good spirits and laughing and joking, even when I started immunotherapy, and she knew how bad it was, and she knew the side effects I would face and the troubles I was going through. She womaned up and was terrific. She was so awesome, I believe she is a big part of why my cancer is now in remission, and I graduated out of hospice. I got a second chance at life partly because of her as a nurse and as a specialist in her field. She was so amazing, and UVMC was so amazing that I even came to work here now. If she is a small example to the people that work here, then I want this to be my career too. I want to be able to give back half as much as she gave to help me.
