The day of our daughter's Sudden Cardiac Arrest was our worst nightmare, but it turned into the best day. N was so fortunate that she was in school when it happened, and she was surrounded by real-life heroes who knew high-quality CPR. That morning was so surreal. Scary as hell. Fast moving. The ambulance ride to Valley Hospital was like a scene from a movie. When we pulled up outside, we were met at the ambulance doors by an earth angel named Alyson. My husband and I were shaky, to say the least. Alyson took my husband in one arm and me in the other. She escorted us into the hospital, assuring us that our daughter was well cared for. Her actions proved to us that we were in good hands, too! We exchanged phone numbers, and she checked back on our girl when we left the hospital.

At the time of these events, I did not know about the DAISY Award. Alyson has such a caring heart; she is the epitome of what an ER nurse should be. We arrived at the ER petrified, and we left well cared for and assured. Alyson is still in our lives three years later! I am glad that I saw this sign about the DAISY Award because even though some time has passed, the care we received from Alyson made a lasting impression on us!
