Alyssa Doherty cared for my husband after a traumatic fall from a ladder. All through her shift yesterday, she made him, and I (his wife) feel that she really cared about his outcome and wanted to make sure he was well cared for physically and emotionally. She was very kind, but very professional, very thorough, and always answered our questions and responded to any needs or requests very promptly. While we were there, we found out a close friend of both of ours was in really bad shape down in oncology. We knew he had been hospitalized the week before, but they had been in the process of getting the inpatient pet scan done and getting results back. We found out that his body was loaded with cancer. We were very fearful for him, and my husband really wanted/needed to see him. Alyssa made that happen for my husband. She put him in a wheelchair and took him for a walk to the floor below so my husband could see his friend for a short time during a short window that our friend had where he was awake. We are so grateful to her for making this happen for both my husband and this friend who was suffering in oncology. We left the hospital yesterday feeling like Alyssa really and truly cared about my husband and the other patients at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. She is an exceptional individual and a role model for all Nurses and caregivers.
