She wasn’t our nurse this past visit, but I felt more cared for knowing she was in the building, and I truly understood at that moment the impact she had on our lives.
Three years ago, my husband and I welcomed our firstborn into the world. This was peak COVID, we weren’t able to have any visitors, and we felt very isolated while trying to learn how to become parents. I had to have a c-section and was also having a hard time navigating recovery from surgery while also caring for a new human. Alyssa really filled in the gaps for us far beyond what was expected. She provided excellent nursing care and anticipated our needs before we even knew what we needed, but she was our family when we weren’t able to have any with us. She even brought our new baby a party hat and celebrated the New Year with us. We never forgot her. Now, three years later, we just welcomed our second son into the world. As we were being moved from post-op to our room, we passed Alyssa. She immediately remembered us and came to check in and say hi. She wasn’t our nurse this past visit, but I felt more cared for knowing she was in the building, and I truly understood at that moment the impact she had on our lives. We’ve had great care, but it was Alyssa’s ability to fill in all the gaps, in addition to providing nursing care, that makes her so special.
