Alyssa, you were my nurse on the evening of my admission to the ICU for only a few hours, but you left a lasting impression. I am sure in your report you heard about a 70-year-old woman with a head bleed refusing admission to the ICU. But you had no preconceived thoughts when I got there. It was a horrible day, and being a typical retired nurse, I wanted nothing to do with being in the hospital, yet you treated me with complete respect, and compassion and, as a human being, helped me get through it. I also recognized that I was very anxious, and you treated that with medication and kind, thoughtful words. Thank you for everything you did that night. It’s hard to find a young nurse with such a mature, competent work ethic. You are truly a good example and preceptor to the new nurses coming in. I was lucky to have met you, and UPMC Mercy is lucky to have you. Thank you!
