Alyssa took it upon herself, in her free time, to have a special keepsake made for her, and came in on her day off to give it to her.
K was a patient that was on 9SW. He had a very complicated and prolonged hospital stay and was on 9SW for a month and a half. During his time on 9SW, he was frequently cared for by Alyssa Hall, RN on the day shift. Alyssa developed a special bond with K and his wife who rarely left K's side except for very short periods of time. Alyssa went above and beyond not only caring for K, but also for his wife.
K spent his birthday in the hospital. Alyssa tried to make his birthday special even though he was in the hospital and only wanted to go home. She brought in balloons, a big card, and a goodie bag to help brighten his spirits. She was part of the effort to try everything possible to get K home where he wanted to be, and after his long hospital stay when it was determined that he would not be able to make it home, she was there as support for him and his family as they transitioned him to inpatient hospice.
Not only did she do all she could to make sure K was comfortable in his last days, but she was also a source of support and comfort for his wife. Alyssa took it upon herself, in her free time, to have a special keepsake made for her, and came in on her day off to give it to her. This memento was a wooden plaque that had a picture of K and his wife from a very happy moment in their life transferred onto it. His wife was beyond grateful to have such a beautiful keepsake to have with her as she enters the next stage of her life without him. Alyssa with her kind gestures made a big impact on both K and his wife and is the true definition of a DAISY Nurse.
